Recent changes for Te Aroha Whānau Health Centre – FAQs for whānau

31 May 2024

As of 29 May 2024, our Te Aroha and Paeroa medical services (GP and nursing services) have combined and are being delivered from our Paeroa Whānau Health Centre. We are no longer delivering GP and Nursing services from our Te Aroha Whānau Health Centre site.

Why are GP and nursing services no longer operating at Te Aroha Whānau Health Centre?

Unfortunately, the current workforce shortages with Medical Practitioners that we require to ensure the continued delivery of quality medical care from our Te Aroha Whānau Health Centre has made it increasingly difficult for us to safely operate. Therefore, we have had to make this very difficult decision to temporarily downsize our medical care services. By combining our Te Aroha GP, Nursing and support personnel with our team based in Paeroa, rather than stretching our already limited workforce across two sites, we hope to be better placed to manage wait times.

Will Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki still operate in Te Aroha?

Our remaining services will continue operating from the premise, including: Ohu Kāinga (Home Assist Services), Te Mata Hauora Community clinics (Rongoā Māori - traditional Māori healing, as scheduled) and those of our other outreach wellbeing services of Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki (by schedule).

What does this mean for my enrolment with Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki?

Your enrolment still enables you access to receiving primary care/medical services from our Paeroa Whānau Health Centre, and the rest of the Whānau Health Centres in our network (Thames, Coromandel and Whitianga).

What number do I call for appointments?

If you wish to make an appointment, you can still call our freephone number: 0508 835 676.

The contact details for Paeroa Whānau Health Centre are:

15 Princes Street, Paeroa 3600

Phone: 07 862 9284

Fax:      07 862 9283

Email:   paeroa@korowai.co.nz

What if I want to find another medical (primary healthcare) service provider who is nearby to Te Aroha?

If you should wish to seek medical services from another local/nearby service provider, which is entirely your right to choose to do so, our team are committed to helping you with transition, through the timely transfer of your medical records to your new provider.
